WestConnex governance model ramps up to delivery mode
25 Sep 2015
From 1 October, WestConnex will transition all functions of WestConnex Delivery Authority (WDA) to the single entity - Sydney Motorway Corporation (SMC) – to continue the efficient and cost-effective delivery of a world class motorway network for Sydney.
SMC Chair Tony Shepherd AO, who was instrumental in the establishment of WDA and led the successful transition to SMC, will handover to current SMC Director Peter Brecht.
Tony Shepherd was appointed to the project in October 2013, playing an integral role in establishing the project’s financing and delivery strategies.
“I am pleased to be handing over the reins to Peter Brecht who has an extensive career in major project delivery and has been on the Board since the project’s inception in 2013,” Mr Shepherd said.
"The project has achieved significant milestones including the signing of contracts and commitment deeds for Stages 1 and 2 and we are now transitioning from planning to delivery, providing an opportune time for Peter to lead the project.”
Peter Brecht has more than 35 years of experience in the construction industry, including 15 years in managing director and chief executive positions with some of the largest construction companies in Australia.
Peter has had oversight in the delivery, operation and maintenance of a number of large scale infrastructure projects, including the M2 and M7 motorways in Sydney and the Clem 7 Motorway in Brisbane.
With construction well underway on the M4 West Widening and King Georges Road Interchange Upgrade, and the M4 East and New M5 projects entering the environmental assessment phase, Mr Brecht will bring extensive road building experience to ensure the smooth delivery of WestConnex as it moves to delivery mode.
