Sydney Gateway opens 1 September 2024!

Sydney Gateway offers a direct connection to Sydney Airport from WestConnex via new exits from the M8 and the M4-M8 Link.

With over 5 kilometres of new roads and 19 new bridge connections around Tempe and Mascot, Sydney Gateway will have capacity for 100,000 vehicles and 10,000 trucks per-day, giving capacity back to local roads in Mascot, Alexandria and Port Botany.

The new connection will improve journey times to the International and Domestic Terminals, as well as those to the M4, M8, M5 East and the M5 South-West for no additional toll.

WestConnex drivers will save an average travel time of up to 17 minutes using Sydney Gateway from WestConnex when compared with current routes from WestConnex to Domestic terminals using local streets.

Project history

The project began construction in 2021 and has opened in stages. The third and final stage which connects to WestConnex will open 1 September 2024. The project has been delivered by TfNSW, and constructed by joint venture partners John Holland and Seymour Whyte, who were named the Principal Contractor in 2020.

Tolling

There is no additional toll for using Sydney Gateway when travelling from the WestConnex M8 and M4-M8 Link. Instead of using local roads to navigate to and from the airport, drivers will soon have a traffic-light free connection with the WestConnex network.
