New M4 changed traffic conditions

Motorists are advised changed traffic conditions are in place with the widened New M4 between Parramatta and Homebush now open with four lanes in each direction. Acting Project Director Matthew Webb said the motorists are asked to drive carefully and to the signposted speed as road users adjust to the changes. “We thank motorists for their patience during this adjustment period as people get used to the new arrangements across the motorway, particularly at on- and off-ramps,” Mr Webb said. “We've worked hard to deliver this vital project for Western Sydney motorists as quickly as possible and we're now starting to see the benefits with four lanes open in both directions.” Motorists are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the new traffic conditions in place at on- and off-ramps now that four lanes are open. “We've been progressively opening sections of four lanes and motorists will need to prepare for changed conditions and variable speed zones when entering and exiting the M4,” Mr Webb said. The following permanent changes are now in place: James Ruse Drive eastbound and Woodville Road westbound on-ramps Motorists using the James Ruse Drive eastbound on-ramp and Woodville Road westbound on-ramp to the M4 no longer have a dedicated lane when entering the motorway and need to merge with the existing motorway lanes. James Ruse Drive westbound off-ramp Motorists exiting the M4 westbound to James Ruse Drive need to use the second lane, veer right and follow the overhead signage and 'JRD EXIT' road markings to leave the motorway. Silverwater Road intersection All on- and off-ramps now become dedicated lanes and motorists traveling in the far left lane who are not exiting at this location need to move right to the adjacent lane to continue on the M4. Hill Road eastbound on-ramp A new eastbound on-ramp from Hill Road to the M4 is now open. Motorists need to merge with existing motorway lanes. Electronic message signs are in place to alert motorists to the changed traffic conditions and motorists are encouraged to visit www.livetraffic.com or www.westconnex.com.au/traffic for the latest traffic information. Work is continuing to extend the M4 via tunnel from Homebush to Haberfield with the opening in 2019.
